Giordano belonged to the Zip faction of the Bonanno family, which at the time concentrated aggressively on the sale of heroin. The ZIP faction also included Gerlando (George of Canada) Sciascia, Sal Catalano, Cesare Bonventre, Baldo Amato and Giovanni Ligammari (which would all appear various in the case of connection to Pizza). Also entirely with zips, the “sixth family”, the members of the outpost linked to Bonanno GALANT CARMINE had established in the Montreal decades. When gallant was killed By members of his own criminal family in 1979, Giordano was one of the Bonannos parked outside the restaurant. The wheel man, he defended custody by the car used to transport the shooters to and from the scene. Giordano’s fingerprint was then discovered on a door handful, although events would prevent federal prosecutors from nailing santo for any involvement in murders.
While the agents watched the gangster house that night in May 1981, Giordano’s car, who had laid down quietly in the aisle, suddenly pulled in life and took off at maximum speed – too quickly for the agents to continue to continue.
The FBI caught up with him a few days later, when they learned that Giordano lived in the USI of a Queens hospital.
FBI agents Carmine Russo and Charlie Rooney visited Giordano, who wore bandages around his chest.
“I heard you had problems,” said Russo.
“Me?” Said Giordano. “Oh, that? No, it’s nothing.”
“Doctors say you have been shot.”
“An accident,” said Giordano.
“How did it go, Santo?” Russo asked.
“Argument on a parking space.”
“Or?”
“I don’t remember,” said Giordano.
The agents later learned that Giordano had drawn a friendly fire during the Mortal strike against a trio of Capos Make a Dissident faction of the Bonanno family.
Alphonse (Sonny Red) IndelicatoPhilip Giacone and Dominick (Big Trin) will not have men with whom he was insignificant. The three had grown up more and more disillusioned With Philip (Rusty), the management of Rastelli prison and had started to make their feelings known, in fact came as a freight train. Gacecone had been targeted first, but the blow was canceled, perhaps because the decision had been made that the best movement would simply be to eliminate the heads of dissidents at once.
The night of the murders, on May 5, Giordano had been in the Brooklyn social club on the 13th avenue when, according to the pre-rail plan, several Loyalists of Rastelli jumped from a cupboard and opened fire on the three Capos. Giordano was wrongly struck in the back. Once the massacre is over, Bonanno Wiseguy based in Montreal Vito Rizzuto And his Zip confidants caught Giordano and precipitated him out of the club via a rear outing that Bonanno feeds Joe Massino and Vitale Salvatore did not even know. (It was a Gambino club.)
As thoroughly detailed in the excellent Last days of SiciliansAn injured Giordano, with a severe agony, was taken to the apartment of the Brooklyn basement of his uncle, Gaspare Bonventre, around 11:00 pm
Bonventre, who was sleeping, went to the door and asked who was there.
“Nino, it’s Tony,” came the answer.
(Santo Giordano was often called Tony, and he called his uncle Nino.)
The uncle opened the door to see his nephew, who was alone and suffering, collapsing, almost on his knees, while trying to rely against a nearby wall.
His uncle put his arm around Giordano’s shoulders and helped him inside and on the stairs. Giordano collapsed once they reached the bottom of the stairs and refused to move.
While Giordano was lying on the ground, Vito Rizzuto and his Confederates, who of course had just killed three people and could not call an ambulance, was heading for another Brooklyn part to try to find discreet medical care of Giordano.
Dr. Edward Salerne – A doctor based in Brooklyn who took care of the patients, including Giordano, for almost 25 years – was relaxing in pajamas and looked at the news of 11 am when ”
