A doctor from Columbus was charged as part of the The largest action for applying the country’s health care fraud by the federal government, according to reports.

The 44-year-old Columbus podiatrist was charged on June 19 in the southern district of Florida and accused of a conspiracy chief to defraud the United States and receive healthcare jars and three counts of health care cottons.

The accusations of man are part of a broader investigation by the Fraud Strike Force Medicare and includes 601 defendants in 58 federal districts, including 76 doctors, as well as nurses and other approved health professionals. They are accused of having participated in fraud programs in health care involving about $ 2 billion in false invoicing.

According to the indictment of man, he received payments from PGRX bribes, a company based in Weston, Florida, which has recruited and paid doctors to prescribe aggravated drugs for beneficiaries of Tricare and Private Commercial Insurance.

During the conspiracy, the man and his co-conspirators would have signed agreements of false medical director and speakers in order to hide that PGRX paid to the accused for drafting orders, according to the accusation act. Following these prescriptions, Tricare made payments in Atlantic Pharmacy, a pharmacy located in the southern district of Florida.

Medicare fraud is classified as a crime as well as as a federal crime which carries fairly steep sanctions, both criminal and civil. Monetary responsibilities can be enormous. The possibility of being held responsible for Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and other fraud in terms of health care means that you must be proactive in your defense strategy and request expert legal aid immediately. You might be called a criminal and lose everything you have worked so hard to create in your career as a health professional.

Whatever the organization of your practice and its operations, the chances of being verified by Medicare are very real, especially if you have a successful practice and submit complaints at high volume to centers for medicare and medicaid services (CMS). Keep this in mind: according to government statistics, complaints of around 50 billion dollars per year are considered suspicious and subject to a Medicare fraud investigation.
