Last will and will

Joseph Valachi composed his latest will and his will in the spring of 1967, while he was part of the Federal Correctional Establishment of Milan, Michigan. Unlike the extraordinarily long autobiography he wrote in 1964-1965, the will was only a page and a half. It was written about a year after Valachi – desperately unhappy with his transfer to Milan and the withdrawal of the government of permission to publish his book – tried to commit suicide. The bruises he suffered in the attenuated suspension had healed, and the author Peter Maas advanced with plans to publish the story of Valachi, but the famous informant was always death in his mind …
