Having survived the Castellammarese war and the purge of the faithful of Salvatore Maranzano who followed, by the fall of 1932, Joe Valachi settled in the life of Mafia. As a new member of a crew led by Anthony Strollo, alias Tony Bender, he became safe in complete safety in the organization of the Mafia led by Charlie “Lucky” Luciano (Salvatore Lucania) and his Vito Genovese sub-boss. Thanks to Valachi newspapers, we learn that Joe received his first murder contract from the Luciano crime family via Bender this fall. The victim was Hoodlum, 21, Michael Reggione, nicknamed Little Apples, who dragged around a coffee on East 109th Street …
