Deported from US, Anmol Bishnoi lands in Delhi and is arrested by NIA

New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (ANI) a gangster arrested Wednesday Lawrence Bishnoithe brother of, Anmol, upon his deportation from the United States. He arrived here by a special flight around 2 p.m., was produced in court and remanded in custody for 11 days. The agency arrested him in a case registered in 2022 to investigate an alleged nexus between criminal gangs in India and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a designated terrorist organization, to raise funds, recruit youth and carry out terror attacks in the country.

'Anmol is targeted for his last name': Bishnoi's cousin calls for 'fair treatment' before trial

Anmol was accused of providing shelter and logistical support to gang shooters and ground agents in America. β€œHe was also allegedly involved in extortion in India from abroad with the help of other gangsters,” the NIA said. The agency intends to know the details of the social media accounts through which the Lawrence Bishnoi group has claimed responsibility for various crimes. After his NIA detention, Anmol is likely to be handed over to the Mumbai and Punjab police in connection with the murder cases of NCP neta Baba Siddique and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala. Anmol's family claimed he was being punished for his brother's crimes. “I request the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to ensure Anmol's safety. The way the gang war is going on, we are worried… Our family has always followed the law. Whether Anmol is a culprit… that is part of the investigation. His biggest crime is that he is Lawrence's younger brother, but he was never involved in the world of crime,” said his cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi. Urging the NIA to ensure his safety, the court ordered that Anmol's medical examination be conducted every 48 hours and his journey from the court to the agency's headquarters and vice versa be video recorded upon completion of his remand. The NIA has been asked to submit a report on the measures taken for its security. Anmol was on the run since 2022, the NIA said. “He is the 19th accused to be arrested for his involvement in the terrorist syndicate led by his imprisoned brother, Lawrence. Anmol was indicted by the NIA in March 2023 after an investigation established that he had actively assisted designated terrorists Goldy Brar and Lawrence in committing various acts of terrorism in the country between 2020 and 2023,” says the agency.Operating closely with various associates of the Bishnoi gang, Anmol continued to run syndicates and execute acts of terrorism from the United States, using the gang's operatives on the ground, the NIA said. Anmol was arrested in Sacramento, California last November for illegal entry, after which the FBI confirmed his identity through DNA and voice sample matches. He requested asylum while incarcerated at the Pottawattamie County Jail in Iowa. The facility's website said it was under investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which deals with cross-border crimes and undocumented immigration in the United States. A shooting incident at actor Salman Khan's house in Mumbai in April last year put Anmol under the lens. A Facebook account, believed to belong to him, claimed responsibility for the incident. Later, police came across an audio recording of a conversation purportedly between Anmol and Vicky Gupta, one of the shooters. On October 12, 2024, Siddique was shot dead outside the Bandra (East) office of his MP son, Zeeshan. Anmol was named in a charge sheet filed by the Mumbai Police. Soon, the NIA announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest. Anmol was also accused of providing weapons and logistical support to the Moose Wala shooters. He reportedly fled India with a fake passport in Bhanu Pratap's name a month before the rapper was killed on May 29, 2022.
