The former pattern of Colombo Street Ralph Deleo in the box

Ralph F. Deleo, 82, who was released in parole last year after spending more than a decade of prison for crimes committed while he was the boss of the Colombo Crime family, was arrested yesterday, according to legal documents filed in the Massachusetts.

Why was arrested is not something we know, although we can learn about it later. Deleo appeared yesterday afternoon for a revocation hearing before the Massachusetts magistrate, judge Paul Levenson and has a detention audience at 2:30 p.m. today.

The FBI ended the reign of a year of Deleo as the pattern of Colombo Street when they pinched it on a drug rap at Little Rock, Arkansas, in December 2009. In 2012, it was sentenced to almost 17 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised liberation (and a fine of $ 50,000 – which would be enough to make us want to make you want to make you want to make a drano Deleo earlier that year, had pleaded guilty of a racketeering conspiracy and being a criminal in possession of firearms and ammunition.

DELEO – A veteran thief of the bank who made a daring escape from a prison hospital in the 1970s – can only be a footnote in the annals of the history of organized New York crime, but his history includes fascinating facets, including why he was anoint to direct the Colombo family at first.

He was chosen in the choir around 2008 by Alphonse (Little Allie Boy) Persico, the son of the longtime boss of Colombo Carmine (The Snake) Persico. Allie Boy had recently been sentenced to life imprisonment for ordering Colombo’s friction in 1999 William (Wild Bill) Cutolo. Seeking to avoid a repetition of the third Colombo war which Pulled in the streets of New York In 1991-1993, leaving 12 dead and dozens injured, Persico decided to go with a stranger based in Boston born in Arkansas who was not even slightly connected to one or the other faction of the Colombo family. The factions were (are?) Biel and Allie Boy had concerns about the establishment of the family of crime in bad hands. It is Deadly serious affairs For these guys. Persico purges today a perpetuity prison sentence for having killed Wild Bill because Allie Boy, in his heart, believed that Cutolo – a major actor of the Vic Orena faction, who opposed the persicos in the war – perhaps one day getting up and trying to draw control of the crime family. (The family and friends of Cutolo tell us that Cutolo had no interest in putting another challenge for the Persicos.)

It was thin choices for Allie Boy. 2008 was not a happy new year to be a big blow in the Colombo family, as we have already noted. In addition to the life imprisonment of Allie Boy, the Federals have pinched Underboss Sonny Franzse, interim boss Thomas (Tommy Shots) GioeliAnd another persico (and apparent heir) Theodore (skinny teddy) persico at different times and on different charges.

Persico chose Deleo, whom he met in the Federal Baxtrop prison in Texas in December 1986. Persico, then 31 years old, was found guilty of racketeering and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, his first prison sentence. Deleo, a bank thief who was serving an hour for murder, had at least a decent diploma, a long -standing friendship with Gennaro AnguiloUnderboss of the New England Patriarca family who supervised the Boston faction.

What allie Boy and apparently most of the others did not know at the time was that Deleo had done something that should have made him belong, not to mention a Borgata – something that would have been an offense of death from Wiseguys: he had already returned and testified. To be a coldly objective on this subject, however, the murder in question was not linked to the mafia. This involved a 1977 Halloween contract struck in Ohio: a doctor wanted another doctor to be killed in the most horrible imaginable manner (the castrez and left him bleeding to death). Deleo – who had just successfully escaped from a prison hospital and needed rapid money – accepted the contract (drawing on the man in the head and chest, not casting him).

Allie Boy unconsciously made a major bet, although he seems to have paid in the sense that, as far as we know, Deleo has never shot and testified against Allie Boy or any other member of the organized crime.

THE Feds nicknamed Deleo The “Boss of rue de Télétravail” which has traveled between Boston and New York two or three times a month by car or by plane. He lived in Massachusetts in an apartment in the basement and was employed as a maintenance worker. Deleo was “in fact a hard worker”, an FBI special agent said of him at the time of his arrest in 2009. He also led a team based in Somerville, in the Massachat, which focused on drug trafficking and loan sharks.

Deleo was not a window for the Persicos: it was a legitimate power. He presided over at least one manufacturing ceremony – in 2009 on Long Island.

His frequent telephone calls to his sister Michelle – which the FBI has conscientiously recorded – gives us an interesting overview of social behavior, rights and rituals around Mafia’s life in New York at the beginning of the 21st century.

“I am lying down,” he told him in a single conversation. “I’m tired. I didn’t sleep for two days. I was doing a lot to run in New York, and it was a little stressful, you know. crushing a little … ”

Michelle: “Have you had the chance to go out?”

Ralph: “Oh yes, that was the problem. Once I came out, you know until 1 am. I was constantly ate. I had to meet these people, everyone wanted to go eat. When I went back to my hotel room, my stomach looked like a big basketball in there. I was eating all day. I started with people for breakfast. This 8-hour dinner lasted until 1 a.m. and Ahh my stomach, I couldn’t sleep.

“Here”, continued Deleo, “I am not like that. There, everyone holds the door for you, helping you with your coat, gives you hugs, kissing you, kissing you and all these kinds of things. Oh, you have to sit in front; you have to do that; are you comfortable? Can I walk around?”

Michelle: “Oh it’s so cute.”

She asked him if the restaurant customers looked at him because he has “the look”.

“Well,” said Ralph, “they come and give me hugs and kisses. This is why people look. People wonder why they kiss this guy.”

Deleo wondered how he ever got into this area, his sister told that he had kept his girlfriend in ignorance of his “business” trip and that I did not want to do “this for a long time” because “it is risky”. But certain opportunities to “earn money” in “legitimate things” had appeared.

“You know,” said Deleo, “there is A place in New Jersey, Bayonnethat we have obtained, and there is a construction company here in Boston which wants work. It’s a 10 -year work … Anyway, I should make money. This is what I hope. I have to earn money for my old age.
