The Friday meeting between the two presidents aimed to bury the war ax and to sign a mineral agreement for the United States in exchange for war aid. What happened, however, was a screaming match that cut Zelensky’s visit – to share the agreement and follow the press conference.
“Everything I work to try to get a new relationship with the United States around a critical mineral agreement beneficial for the two of us has been completely erased today,” Graham told Fox News.
The two presidents have gone back and forth to each other in recent weeks, Trump even going so far as to call Zelensky a “dictator”. Asked about the accusation, Trump playful With a journalist: “Did I say that? I can’t believe I said it. The following question.”
Graham’s change of heart led him to call to the resignation of Zelensky if he did not “change”.
“The way he managed the meeting, the way he confronted the president was just above,” said South Carolina senator.
Graham did not seem sure to know if Ukraine could now conclude an agreement with the United States, but said that it was proud of the way Trump and Vice-President JD Vance managed the confrontation.
Trump said after the meeting that what he wanted was peace and that Zelensky could come back when he was on the same wavelength.
“We want to be useful,” said Graham. “What I saw in the oval office was disrespectful. And I don’t know if we could do business again with Zelensky. ”
