Ramniwas Rawat, a deputy for six mandates who threw the Congress to join the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, sworn as minister in the government of Madhya Pradesh while chief Minister Mohan Yadav expanded his cabinet on Monday.

Rawat was sworn in as the Minister of the Cabinet and the Oath of Office and the Secret was administered by the Mangubhai Patel government during a ceremony at Raj Bhawan. The expansion saw only one minister taking an oath.

However, the oath ceremony had to be redone within 15 minutes after Mr. Rawat read his oath by saying “Rajya Mantri “ (Minister of State) instead of “Rajya Ke Mantri(Minister of the State), leading to confusion if he will be a MOS or a minister of the cabinet.

The error was noticed after the officials informed the chief minister and the governor, which led to a second ceremony in another place in Raj Bhawan. The first oath was not taken into account.

An eminent leader of the Gwalior-Chambal region, Rawat joined the BJP on April 30. He represents the district of the Vijaypur Assembly in the Sheopur district and had been a minister in the government of the Congress led by Digvijaya Singh.

The change of Mr. Rawat would have benefited the BJP in the Chambal region, in particular in the district of Morena Lok Sabha where the party was faced with a difficult challenge of the Congress. The BJP managed to win it by 52,000 votes. The Sheopur district is part of the district of Morena.

Mr. Rawat has only resigned from its legislative members after having taken oath as minister and should now contest the by -election on a BJP ticket.

In addition to Mr. Rawat, two other deputies had moved to the BJP in the midst of Lok Sabha – Nirmala Sapre and Kamlesh Pratap Shah of Bina and the districts of Amarwara, respectively. While Mr. Shah had abandoned his legislative membership shortly after joining the ruling party and now disputes the bridging on July 10 on a BJP ticket, Ms. Sapre has not yet been unmissed as a deputy.

Last week, a delegation of Congress deputies led by the opposition chief Umanghar met with the president of the Narendra Singh Tomar assembly and asked him to suspend the members of Mr. Rawat and Ms. Sapre.

With the new induction, the force of the cabinet of Madhya Pradesh reached 32 years, including the chief minister and his two deputies. The maximum resistance is 35.

Earlier in December, 28 ministers, including the ranks of the cabinet and Mos, had been sworn in just a few days after Mr. Yadav and his two deputies were sworn in.
