The general staff of the blocks and the front (the mayor of Estado de Bloche Frente – EMBF) is a Colombian criminal organization whose roots go up to the country's armed left guerrilla movement. It is that the main criminal activities are drug trafficking, illegal extraction and extortion.

History

The EMBF is a federation of dissident factions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas revolucionarias de Colombia – Stuff) who find their origins in the old guerrillas who rejected the peace process between the FARC and the Colombian government in 2016. These dissidents initially gathered in a vaguely connected network known as the central general staff (mayor of Estado Central – EMC).

In 2024, the ambf became an EMC escape coalition, consolidating several of these factions under a separate command structure after an internal disagreement on the group's participation in a new peace process launched in 2022 by the Colombian President Gustavo Petro, called Total peace (Total Paz).

Petro suspended A cease-fire agreement with EMC in March 2024 in the departments of Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Nariño, after a faction of the group killed an indigenous leader in the Cauca. This decision sparked internal tensions within the EMC: some blocks have prompted to continue the dialogue, while others refused to re-engage until a national cease-fire was restored.

During a meeting in April 2024, the Colombian government and certain EMC delegates agreed to continue the peace talks. Particularly absent, however, were representatives of the EMC blocks at the Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Arauca, who were faithful to the group leader, the former commander of the first Farc front, born Gregio Vera Fernández, alias “Iván Mordisco. “”

The factions that remained in the peace process – the Jorge Suárez Briceño block, the Magdalena Medio Bloc, and the front of Commander Raúl Reyes – became the EMBF, led by the former FARC commander, Alexander Díaz, alias “Calarcá Córdoba”.

In October 2024, the government extended a ceasefire with the ambf for six months while the negotiations continued. But after April 2025 ambush In Guaviare who made seven dead soldiers, the government refused to renew the ceasefire.

Direction

The EMBF is made up of three main sub-structures: the Jorge Suárez Briceño block, the Magdalena Medio Bloc and the front of Commander Raúl Reyes.

The Jorge Suárez Briceño block is led by Calarcá Córdoba, which is largely considered to be the global commander of the EMBF.

The Magdalena Medio Bloc is controlled by a figure that uses the alias “Richard Suárez”. One of his key characters is Javier Alonso Velosa, alias “Jhon Mechas”, who runs the 33rd front. Another eminent member of the ambf is Carlos Eduardo García Tellez, alias “Andrey Aventaño”, a former EMC negotiator who has kept the same role in the EMBF after the split.

Geography

The EMBF operates in several regions of Colombia, often competing for control in important areas for mining operations and COCA culture which are disputed by several criminal groups, in areas such as Catatumbo, Bajo Cauca, Antioquia and Southern Bolívar.

The group also maintains a strong presence In Putumayo, Caquetá, Huila, Amazonas, Meta, Guaviare, Tolima and Cauca.

Allies and enemies

AMBF alliances and rivalries vary considerably depending on the region and the specific sub-structures or fronts involved. In the catatumbo region along the eastern border of Colombia with Venezuela, the 33rd front of the EMBF was locked in a fierce battle With the National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberación Nacional – Eln) since January 2025. The conflict has overturned In the mountain range of Serranía del Perijá in the department neighboring Cesar.

On the other hand, in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia and the region of the Magdalena environment, the EMBF fronts have formed tactical alliances with the ELN to resist the expansion of the Gaiatanist self -defense forces of Colombia (Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia – AGC) in key mining areas. Violence in these areas has moved hundreds of residents of the Municipalities of Antioquia, such as Remedios, Segovia, Anorí and El Bagre.

In a large part of the south of Colombia, the EMBFs main rival Stay the EMC. The two factions compete in at least five departments, including Caquetá, Amazonas, Meta, Putamayo and Guaviare.

Prospects

The future of the EMBF remains uncertain because the demobilization negotiations with the Colombian government are on fragile ground. The group is likely to maintain its involvement in illicit economies and to continue violent clashes with rival groups to challenge key areas for illegal economies such as cocaine and drug trafficking.
