“Do not cross the grid, do not cross the line.”

Just before 8 p.m. on October 26, 2022, a member of the Loc City gang and King Ty drilling rapper was killed near the intersection of Greenleaf and GreenView while driving in a car when someone went up and opened fire.

Many shells were found on the scene. Loc City has been a set of Gangster disciple, which has been arguing the Gangster PBG disciple for more than a decade. King Ty was in the territory of PBG, a few pies of houses south of the territory of Loc City.

Before his death, King Ty was in many drilling rap videos published online by calling the rivals of his gang. It is only one of the many tragedies of the lawn wars that exist in Rogers park. Last rap, among other things, helps to fuel these violent lawn wars not only in Rogers Park, but throughout the region of Chicagoland.

Historically, Rogers Park houses ramifications of the Black P. Stones, Gangster disciples, 4 corners and Latin gangs from Kings. Although far from the most dangerous districts of Chicago, these undulation effects can be seen in the far north and even adjacent to the Côte du Lac Loyola campus.

Last August, a local local neighborhood organization, native sounds, called for gangs to engage from 9 a.m. to 9 pm “ceasefire”. Avoid Maria Hadden was a key shopper. What is the depth of the violence of gangs shaken Rogers Park, and how much is the cultivation of gang normalized in the communities of Chicago?

Urban areas are a magnet for organized crime and gang activity. Here in Chicago, this is particularly visible. In Chicago, like many other dense cities around the world, gangs and gang violence are supplied mainly by the demand for illicit drugs and the lack of advancement opportunities for young people.

Many small real estate flights and crimes on the Loyola campus would often be linked to the cultivation of gangs, as well as incidents with higher profile, such as a situation of October 20 in which three teenagers were shot in a car parked on the 44400 block of Sheridan RD in Uptown.

Through Chicago, the prevalence of the culture of gangs and violent crimes attracted great national attention putting the systemic problems of Chicago in the void where it can be difficult to decipher the facts and fiction when we consider the facts of the problems with which the city is confronted.

Here in Rogers Park, there is a very established community effort organized and led by the inhabitants. Groups such as Circles and figures In Rogers park, which provides a repairing justice organization focused on music working with young people affected by violence and people formerly imprisoned in and around the Rogers Park community. Groups focused on community members such as communities associating 4 Peace, a group based in Rogers Park and Uptown, are directly affiliated to A north,, which works mainly in the prevention of violence and the awareness of young people thanks to the direct commitment and the support of the members of the community.

49th Ward, director of politicians and chief of staff, Leslie Perkins, noted Rogersedge Reporter. There is additional funding in the 2024 budget for the disturbances of violence, the employment of young people and to implement the Goodkidsmadcity Peacebook order. »»

The Goodkidsmadcity plan calls to divest money over $ 40 million in the DPC budget which appears in employment training programs for young people and violence prevention efforts.

The CPD will see an increase of fifty million dollars in their budget of nearly two billion dollars during the year 2024, and as confidence in city leaders and politics.

When you deal with violent crimes, and in particular the violence of gangs in Chicago, the prospects and feelings towards some of the most infamous problems in the city may vary madly.

Jessica Brandt, a mother and former member of a West Town gang, said: “The gangs ruined Chicago, walking wherever you could be on the verge of territory or not.”

The recent point of crime has been reinforced in the summers after COVVI-19 locking, causing more discomfort and doubt in the region. Despite several peaks of violent crimes in recent years, according to the CPD in 2022, armed violence affiliated with gangs has only been down since the mid -2010s.

Cynthia Nguyen, an elderly person from Loyola, said: “In comparison (in the loop), I would not say that it is dangerous here, there are certain areas that you want to avoid.”

The Rogers Park being inevitably divided by the presence of a large university and one of the most frequented passenger corridors between one or the other coast, has a considerably variable difference in perspectives on the subject. However, in the midst of an urgent migrant crisis and a budget deficit, as recently as November 2023, the CPD reported that violent crimes and homicides had reached pre-pale levels. This should not ignore the main engines of the gangs and the violence of the gangs, the demand for illegal narcotics and the lack of youth opportunities. Communities tending their hand and having a direct interest in their young people are a step in the right direction.
