Italian authorities have finally closed the net around one of the country's most elusive projects. Camorra Mafia the bosses. Roberto Mazzarella, 48, had been on the run for more than a year and was arrested at a luxury seaside villa in Vietri sul Mare, on Italy's famous Amalfi Coast.
According to investigators, the alleged Camorra The leader offered no resistance when police stormed the property.

The rise of the Mazzarellas
Mazzarella is said to be the leader of the powerful Mazzarella clan, a faction of the famous Camorra crime syndicate based in Naples. The Mazzarella clan was founded in the 1960s by the Mazzarella brothers, Ciro, Gennaro and Vincenzo, and operated under the legendary Camorra boss Michele Zazawho was also a relative of the brothers.

The Mazarellas devoted themselves to cigarette smuggling, as did their leader Zaza, establishing bases from Borgo Santa Lucia to Posillipo and from Bagnoli to Pozzuoli. The Mazzarella clan grew rapidly and soon became independent from the Zaza clan.
Authorities say the Mazzarella clan now controls a significant portion of smuggling and drug trafficking operations. Investigators also link the group to money laundering schemes that extend to Milan and other areas of northern Italy, where illicit profits are funneled to legitimate businesses.
Prosecutors suspect Roberto Mazzarella of ordering several murders. Among the most serious allegations is his role in a deadly shooting in downtown Naples in 2000 that left his mob rival Antonio Maione dead. Maione belonged to a competing crime family and the killing appears to be retaliation. According to investigators, Maione's brother had previously admitted to murdering Mazzarella's father, sparking a vendetta that culminated in the shooting.
For years, Mazzarella was high on the Italian Interior Ministry's list of the country's most dangerous fugitives, ranking fourth before his capture.
Meloni: “A hard blow for the Camorra”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, currently traveling to the Gulf region due to the president Donald TrumpThe disastrous war which caused an energy and security crisis described the arrest as “a major blow to the Camorra”. Writing on X, she said the operation sends a clear signal that the Italian state will not back down in its fight against organized crime.
Italian authorities sent heavily armed officers to the seaside villa where Mazzarella was staying. The takedown involved multiple agencies, including the National Military Police, Air Force and Coast Guard.
Inside the villa, police found Mazzarella with his wife and two children. Investigators say he rented the property, for around €1,000 per night, using false documents. During the arrest, the police seized around €20,000 in cash, three luxury watches, several mobile phones and a set of false identity papers.
The arrest took place in one of the most exclusive tourist areas in Italy. The Amalfi Coast, home to picturesque towns like Positano, is among the country's most popular and expensive vacation destinations. But even amid postcard views and luxury villas, one of Naples' most wanted men was hiding in plain sight, until justice finally caught up with him.
